2004 Wonderful Wizard of Oz
For our first display garden in the Cleveland Home and Garden Show, we decided to design a formal backyard retreat. A sunken patio in the shape of a “Block O” characteristic of The Ohio State University symbolized the education received by both Brian and Kyle. Two Versa-Lok columns topped with cedar shake caps marked the garden entrance. A retaining wall and rod-iron fence enclosed the garden to add  a sense of intimate privacy. The garden’s main attraction was a built-in water feature situated across the backdoor of the home. The soothing sound of water gently cascading over the blocks provided the garden with a cozy ambiance despite the crowded, noisy operations of the show. We were delighted to receive the first place blue ribbon for the small garden category.
